Michigan Congressional Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-life Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Pro-Life. I believe life begins at conception.
No In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
No Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
I believe in a balanced budget, and not taking away from individual social security and Medicare in order to support more frivolous spending. We need to stop wasting taxpayers' social security that they have paid into for years.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Like all campaign expenditures, independent expenditures should be reported. However, they must be permitted as a first amendment right to free speech.
Yes Do you support increasing defense spending?
The success of our foreign policy and matters of national security depends on having a strong military. We must keep our military me and women safe with the most recent technology. If there is any waste, it should be eliminated.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
Small businesses have been disproportionately hurt due to shutdowns, especially in Michigan, and should be helped. I do not support frivolous spending, such as the Kennedy Center, or the misuse or abuse of unemployment claims.
No Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
Children should always come first. This means we need to have accountability for every tax dollar and make sure our children are getting a quality education that prepares them to be job or college-ready. Parents or teachers should be involved at the local level, rather than having a one-size-fits-all federal approach.
No Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
No Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
The green new deal would crush the economy and disproportionately hurt low-income families. It is quite possibly one of the worst political ideas ever proposed.
No Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
I unequivocally support the second amendment for law-abiding citizens and the right to bear arms.
Yes Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
No Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
Businesses are already being crushed and forced to close their doors. We need for them to remain open so workers have a place to go back to once the economy is fully up and running.
Yes Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
Yes Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Illegal immigrants who have committed crimes should immediately be deported. Beyond that, our immigration system is broken and in need of comprehensive reform. We should have a merit-based immigration system that puts the interest of American citizens first. We need to protect our country and be smart about who we are letting in.
Yes Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
I would like to see our troops come home.
Yes Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
We need to have fair trade with other countries and not allow the US to be taken advantage of. At times, this requires the use of tariffs and other tools to ensure a fair playing field.
1. I want to fight for, and defend, our constitutional liberties, such as the establishment clause and the second amendment. I want to make sure that we keep our police and first responders safe -- not defund them. 2. I want to cease any and all manufacturing of vital drugs in China, and instead, have those drugs manufactured right in the 8th district (and in America). 3. I want to make sure we keep senior citizens safe by creating a national registry for caretakers who have abused the elderly and holding governors accountable for COVID deaths in nursing homes.
